This past Saturday night, I had the pleasure, and honor, to photograph The Mike Ratley Memorial Rock N Roll benefit. This is a great benefit, put on and organized by wonderful people.
Mike was a long time local area drummer that lost his fight with diabetes at the age of 52. In his honor, they organize this every year to raise money for kids with Type I Diabetes. This year the proceeds are going to the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana "Camp Until a Cure" scholarships for Northwest Indiana kids. This is a wonderful benefit, and I personally would like to thank those on the committee that volunteer for it, as my own father has diabetic issues.
Bands, raffles, food, drinks, 50/50, and good times! All the bands donate their time, and they had awesome prizes donated for the raffle from some wonderful sponsors! Valpo Vienna was on hand to keep everyone fed and the bartenders were workin' hard keeping everyone hydrated. A good time was had by all! Last year, the benefit raised $3000 for Healthlinc of Lake and Porter Counties!
Every year, it's a job well done by the committee!
For a $10 donation, there were THREE bands to entertain you! PLUS raffles for small donations to win really cool prizes, AND you automatically got a raffle ticket with your entry! And it's a family event, so the kids can come have some fun as well! This years music was provided by The Guilty Party, Supreme Fresh, and headlining was The Jimmy Sarr Band!
It was a great night, and I'm sure everyone had a blast! Make sure to keep an eye out for next years benefit! I know I will!
